Basketball Recap: Churchill Drops Season-High Score on Woodburn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Churchill). It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 63-61 victory from a begrudging Lancers squad.

Leading Churchill to victory were Jace Litten and Ty Read. Litten posted 16 points and five rebounds, while Read dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Read is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ryan Gutierrez, who earned seven points.

Churchill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Churchill now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Woodburn, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Churchill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sherwood at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sherwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Churchill likes a good challenge. As for Woodburn, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ridgeview at 6:30 p.m. on December 30th.
