For the second straight game, Murray will face off against Park City. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Miners at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Murray has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Murray's last matchup with Park City could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Tuesday. The Spartans lost 14-8 to the Miners. The Spartans have struggled against the Miners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
For Park City's part, Alex Brannigan made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Park City is undefeated when Brannigan posts eight or more strikeouts, but 3-10 otherwise. Brannigan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Joey Breza was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Park City's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Kai DeLong was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Park City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Park City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Murray, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Murray hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Park City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
