Softball Recap: Long Wins Going Away Against Luverne

Long won the last time they faced Luverne and things went their way on Monday too. The Rebels put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-4 win. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by six runs or more this season.

Anna Claire Free made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last seven contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ansley Watson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last six matches. Kaylie Foster was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Long and bumps their season record up to 28-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Luverne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Long will venture away from home to square off against Slocomb at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Luverne, they will head out to face off against Andalusia at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
