Laurel hasn't had much luck against Delmar recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Delmar took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Laurel, who comes in off a win.
Laurel lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Nandua, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 11-1 victory on Friday. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Koby Shockley made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Shockley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those runs were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Laurel got a big performance out of Connor Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Smith also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Matt Givens was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Delmar didn't have quite enough to beat Decatur on Friday and fell 4-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Delmar saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Robert McCabe, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Delmar's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Laurel, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Everything went Laurel's way against Delmar when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Laurel made off with a 7-1 victory. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
