Basketball Recap: Unicoi County Triumphs

Unicoi County came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They pulled ahead with a 62-61 photo finish over the Virginia High Bearcats.

Leading Unicoi County to victory were Kaden Cutlip and Koda Cutlip. Kaden went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Koda went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points and eight boards. Kaden's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Simmons, who posted nine points.

Unicoi County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Virginia High, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2.

Unicoi County will be taking part in a tournament against Gibbs at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Gibbs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season. Virginia High and Webb will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Virginia High knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Webb likes a good challenge.
