Solomon is 9-1 against Herington since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. Both teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Solomon suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. They were the victim of a tough 60-40 defeat at the hands of Wichita HomeSchool.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-31, which was the final score in Herington's tilt against Elyria Christian on Friday. While losing is never fun, Herington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Elyria Christian is ranked 59th).
Herington's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mason Mortensen, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Tyus Becker who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 45.2% of Herington's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Solomon now has a losing record at 4-5-1. As for Herington, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Solomon was able to grind out a solid victory over Herington when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 42-30. Does Solomon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Herington turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
