Softball Recap: Downey Extends Winning Streak to Three

Downey waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Mayfair Monsoons. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 back in March.

Downey's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jade Gonzalez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Gonzalez launched this season. Another was Madeline Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Downey hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Downey's record now sits at 13-4. As for Mayfair, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.

Downey will host La Mirada at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Matadores will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mayfair, they will take on Paramount at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Monsoons are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
