The Pickens Blue Flame's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 74-56 fall against Greenwood. While losing is never fun, Pickens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Greenwood is ranked 39th).
When it comes to explaining why Pickens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eli Doty. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Carter Mckenzie, who scored seven points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
He wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Pickens were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Greenwood was led to victory by Nyjaviese Duncan and Jeremiah Brooks. Duncan scored 13 points along with eight assists and three steals, while Brooks scored 23 points. Brooks continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Triston Lewis, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Pickens has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Greenwood, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Pickens will look to defend their home court on Friday against Easley at 7:30 p.m. Easley is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Greenwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Berea at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
