Elkton is 1-7 against Lowell since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Elks will head out to square off against the Devils at 4:30 p.m. Elkton has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Elkton is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Oakridge, falling 28-7.
Amira Harper and Amelia Holloway stepped up to the plate in a big way. Harper got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, while Holloway went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Riyo Torres was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lowell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Yoncalla on Friday as they made off with a 16-4 victory.
Kyla Dobson-McCart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Dobson-McCart was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddy Thurman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cheyanne McNamee, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
Lowell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Lowell's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Elkton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.
Elkton might still be hurting after the 18-8 defeat they got from Lowell when the teams last played on Monday. Can the Elks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
