Mayer may have come out ahead in their last matchup, but they shouldn't get too cocky given who is up next. On Saturday they take on Anthem Prep at Boulder Creek at 7:00 PM. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps rankings project a close game.
Mayer have had to suffer through a 4-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They steamrollered Mohave Accelerated 64-16. No one put up better numbers for Mayer than senior wyatt frye, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Anthem Prep faced Bagdad in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Anthem Prep didn't finish too far behind, but the squad still lost 22-28 to Bagdad last Friday. The match was a 8-8 toss-up at halftime, but Anthem Prep were outplayed the rest of the way.
Mayer simply couldn't be stopped the last time the two teams met, as they easily beat Anthem Prep 75-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mayer since the team won't have home-field advantage. Watch the game and check back on MaxPreps to see if the change in venue makes a difference.
