The Utica Academy of Science Atoms pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Bishop Grimes 61-55. While losing is never fun, Utica Academy of Science can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Bishop Grimes is ranked 145th).
Utica Academy of Science's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Doneilious King j.r, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Akol Machteng was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Utica Academy of Science struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Utica Academy of Science and nudges their season record down to 1-10. As for Bishop Grimes, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Syracuse Academy of Science the next time they take the court. Bishop Grimes will host Syracuse Academy of Science at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, while Utica Academy of Science will host them at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
