The Piedmont Classical Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Piedmont Classical had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.7 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They blew past Triad Math and Science Academy 75-40 at home.
Piedmont Classical's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tj Bacote, who scored 12 points along with seven assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'el Lawson, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness came tearing into Friday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Winston-Salem Prep, posting a 71-20 win at home. Given Bishop McGuinness' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Winston-Salem Prep is ranked 538th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Piedmont Classical has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Bishop McGuinness, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Piedmont Classical might still be hurting after the 72-52 loss they got from Bishop McGuinness in their previous meeting back in January. Can Piedmont Classical avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
