The Benedictine Bengals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 82-61 walloping at the hands of Euclid. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Benedictine lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kris Smith, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Noah Whisler, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Thai Duncan was his usual excellent self, scoring 40 points for Euclid. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Duncan has scored all season. Anthony Moore was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Benedictine's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Euclid, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benedictine will face off against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Benedictine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday. As for Euclid, they will head out on the road to take on Lutheran West at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Euclid's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
