If the Rolla Pirates were riding high off their 46-12 takedown of the Weskan Coyotes back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Rolla took a hard 55-39 fall against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Rolla can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 322nd in Kansas, while South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] is ranked 142nd in Colorado).
When it comes to explaining why Rolla lost, one person who can't be blamed is Elena Reza. Despite the final result, she scored 30 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reza has scored all season.
Rolla struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] posted nine assists.
Leading South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] to victory were Sarah Elmore and Kate Elmore. Elmore scored 24 points, while Elmore dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Elmore is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Callie Hinds was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Rolla's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rolla will square off against Deerfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett], they will head out on the road to take on Granada at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Granada is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
