Bear River (Garland, Utah) jumped out to an early lead against
Grantsville (Utah) and never looked back on the way to a 21-0 victory on Saturday.
The Bears put up 14 points in the opening frame. Bear River scored on a
Kyle Zundel touchdown pass to
Colton Jensen and a touchdown run by Zundel.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Zundel to Jensen in the first quarter, BR led 14-0 at the half.
The Garland school's most effective player was Zundel. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
The Bears came in allowing an average of 20.0 points per game this season. Bear River held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Cowboys well below the 24.7 points it had been averaging per game.
BR got revenge for last year's 19-2 loss to Grantsville with the victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Grantsville, which notched a 33-0 victory over Ben Lomond in its previous outing. The win was a nice bounce back for the Bears, which lost to Morgan last week, 24-21. The loss snapped GHS's 3-game winning streak.
Bear River (5-3) goes up against Pine View in a non-conference game matchup next week, while Grantsville (5-3) locks horns with Stansbury in a 3A Region 11 game.
