The Roosevelt Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Muleshoe Mules at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Roosevelt's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Dimmitt 16-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Shauna Thompson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Thompson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Avery Putman and Abcde Carranza did most of the damage at the plate: Putman got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Carranza got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two runs gave Putman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paislee Coltharp, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Roosevelt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Muleshoe ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. Everything went their way against Idalou as they made off with a 23-14 win. Considering the Mules have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Roosevelt, Muleshoe also got a great game from a two-way player: Adalie Agundis. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Agundis has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Maddi Anzaldua was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Dylynn Villanueva was another key player, getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Muleshoe's record now sits at 15-5. As for Roosevelt, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-10.
Roosevelt suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Muleshoe when the teams last played on March 10th. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
