Football Recap: Taft Skates Past Scio with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Taft). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-13 win over the Scio Loggers. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 30 points per game.

Kol Tolan had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 130 yards and three scores on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 117 yards on ten of 17 attempts. Corban Smith made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Taft was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 227 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 213 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

Taft didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Smith and Callen Ward. Smith got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Taft pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points over those games. As for Scio, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will head out to challenge Salem Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Crusaders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Scio, they will head out on the road to take on Dayton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates' defense has only allowed four points per game this season, so the Loggers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
