Suffield Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Pomfret School a seven-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Saturday. The Suffield Academy Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pomfret School Griffins at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Suffield Academy took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hamden Hall Country Day, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Hornets on Friday.
Kai Young looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Suffield Academy let Gabriel Rivera and Chase Beloin run wild. Rivera went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Beloin got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Those three runs gave Rivera a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Greco, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Suffield Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
While Pomfret School didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Berkshire School by a score of 7-4 on Wednesday.
Carson Ames made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ames was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Seth Duerden tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Mason Gordon and Shep Wilcox did most of the damage at the plate: Gordon scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Wilcox scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Gordon also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Flynn, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Suffield Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Pomfret School, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Suffield Academy couldn't quite get it done against Pomfret School when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
