The Mountainside Wolves will face off against the Kingman Academy Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountainside has given up an average of 23.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monday just wasn't the day for Mountainside's offense. They came up short against Salome on Monday, falling 20-0. The loss continues a trend for the Wolves in their meetings with the Frogs: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Kingman Academy waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Emily Mathys was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Ryleigh Mytinger was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Avery Hicks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Kingman Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Mountainside's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Kingman Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
