In what's become a running theme this season, the Dysart Demons gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 96-68 win over Cortez at home. Dysart's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Dysart's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Morales led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Morales hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Nigel Anderson, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the defeat, Cortez had strong showings from Devan Fowler, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 4 assists, and Ulysses Espinoza, who scored 19 points along with five assists and two steals. That was a full 44.1% of Cortez's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nygel Lindsey, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
The victory was the ninth in a row for Dysart, bringing their record for this year to 20-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.2 points per game. As for Cortez, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dysart and Coronado will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Coronado will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Dysart is ranked 41st). As for Cortez, Cortez and Apache Junction will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Apache Junction is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home.
