Despite the loss, Southside saw an underclassman step up: freshman Graciela Galvan posted ten points in addition to seven steals and six boards. Galvan is becoming a predictor of the Cardinals' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when she doesn't). Marley Montanez had an outrageously good game for El Paso as she dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Montanez is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Emma Guevara was another key player, putting up seven points along with ten boards and three steals.
Southside now has a losing record of 3-4. As for El Paso, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Coming up, Southside will host Highlands at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for El Paso, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-32 defeat against Burbank on the 15th.
