Payson proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 15-14. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Myra Andrew made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Andrew was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases.
In other batting news, Paisley Beckstead was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing Two bases. while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Anna Marvin, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maple Mountain only posted a batting average of .250.
Payson's win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson will challenge Syracuse at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Maple Mountain, they will take on Providence Hall at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
