If the Seffner Christian Crusaders were riding high off their 42-0 takedown of the Bronson Eagles last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Seffner Christian was beaten by Clearwater Central Catholic 54-7 on Friday. Seffner Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.
Bobby Bonomo threw for 63 yards on 11 of 20 attempts. Elijah Brown was his top target, picking up 27 receiving yards. On the ground, Bo Knox rushed for 27 yards.
Clearwater Central Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nasir Hutchinson, who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Hollis got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Seffner Christian to a paltry 84 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Clearwater Central Catholic's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Keo Jenkins and his two sacks.
Seffner Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Clearwater Central Catholic, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Seffner Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Clearwater Central Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Cardinal Gibbons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
