Peyton Dickens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Whiteland let Isaac Phegley and Kayden Wilson run wild. Phegley went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Wilson went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Whiteland is undefeated when Phegley posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Maalik Perkins, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Whiteland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for East Central's offense. They fell 3-0 to Mt. Vernon on Saturday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cole Reynolds made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Whiteland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for East Central, their loss dropped their record down to 16-9.
East Central's pitching crew better be locked in on Friday. Whiteland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. It's a different story for East Central, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Whiteland in the park?
Whiteland couldn't quite finish off East Central when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
