Basketball Recap: Lanier Christian Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Emma Flowers and Adelyn Gough

If Lanier Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 60-26 takedown of West Hall last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lanier Christian Academy Lightning took a hard 50-35 fall against the Horizon Christian Academy Warriors on Tuesday. The Lightning lost against the Warriors in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-23 score last time.

Lanier Christian Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Adelyn Gough, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, and Emma Flowers, who posted ten points. Those nine rebounds gave Gough a new career-high.

Horizon Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Nyla Black, who almost dropped a triple-double on 20 points, ten assists, and nine steals. Black is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Holcombe, who put up ten points and six rebounds.

Lanier Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Horizon Christian Academy, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

Lanier Christian Academy will head out on the road to challenge Peachtree Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Horizon Christian Academy, they will take on South Haven Christian in a tournament on January 16th.
