If the Elkhorn South Storm were riding high off their 83-53 takedown of the Omaha Northwest Huskies last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Elkhorn South fell 49-39 to Papillion-LaVista South on Friday. While losing is never fun, Elkhorn South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Papillion-LaVista South is ranked eighth).
Elkhorn South's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Skradis, who scored 18 points. The contest was Skradis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Owen Musil was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Leading Papillion-LaVista South to victory were Bryson Bahl and Reece Kircher. Bahl scored 15 points along with eight rebounds, while Kircher scored 16 points. Kircher also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Wes Frost, who scored four points.
Elkhorn South has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Papillion-LaVista South, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Elkhorn South will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Millard West at 10:15 a.m. on December 30th. Hopefully Millard West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. Papillion-LaVista South won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gretna at 5:15 p.m. on December 30th. Gretna knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Papillion-LaVista South likes a good challenge.
