Softball Recap: Belmont Comes Up Short

If Belmont was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of Wayland on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Marauders took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westport Wildcats on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 back in April.

Olivia Ormond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 11 hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josie Kim was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Amelia Ormond, who went 3-for-4 with one double.

Belmont has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Westport, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belmont will face off against Lexington at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Westport, they will be playing at home against Wareham at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
