Chase Johnston made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cy Chrisman was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. AJ Thomas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Maple Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork won against Alta on Thursday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Dons walked away with a 7-3 victory over Cyprus.
The team relied heavily on Jackie Sorenson, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nixon Warren, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Spanish Fork's win bumped their record up to 14-16. As for Maple Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 27-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maple Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Maple Mountain beat Spanish Fork 4-0 when the teams last played back in April. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
