The Gregory-Portland Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Ray Texans at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gregory-Portland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Gregory-Portland didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Miller, but they still walked away with a 58-52 win. Given Gregory-Portland's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while Miller is ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gregory-Portland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Kilgore, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Kilgore has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Jariyah Whitehead was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Ray, who are still winless after their 16th contest. They took a hard 43-26 fall against Miller on Friday.
Gregory-Portland is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season. As for Ray, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Gregory-Portland against Ray in their previous meeting on January 9th as the squad secured a 69-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gregory-Portland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
