There's no place like home for the Anthem Prep Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Mayer by a score of 46-35 on Wednesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Anthem Prep also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Anthem Prep was led to victory by Abigail Purvis and Amanda Gandolfo. Purvis almost dropped a triple-double on 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 blocks, while Gandolfo scored 22 points along with 9 steals.
Mayer's loss came despite strong showings from Danni McCann and Larissa Dodge. McCann dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 steals, while Dodge scored 8 points along with 12 rebounds and 5 steals. McCann scored a full 57.1% of Mayer's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Mayer were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anthem Prep only pulled down 14.
The win got Anthem Prep back to even at 1-1. As for Mayer, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Anthem Prep will take on Sequoia Pathway Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mayer won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Phoenix Day School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on November 30th. Hopefully Phoenix Day School for the Deaf focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday.
