If the Westlake Academy Blacksmiths were feeling good off their 58-36 takedown of the North Dallas Adventist Academy Sentinel on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Westlake Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to Newman International Academy. Westlake Academy has not had much luck with Newman International Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
It was another big night for Jeremiah Bamibe, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and nine steals for Newman International Academy. Bamibe is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Page, who scored 12 points.
Westlake Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Newman International Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westlake Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Victory Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Newman International Academy on the road again on Wednesday and play against International Leadership of Texas Keller at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
