Doane Academy took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (barely). They skirted past Holy Cross 54-51. For Doane Academy, this counts as revenge for the 73-71 loss Holy Cross walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.
Doane Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nick Fusco led the charge by scoring 21 points. Vaughn Hoagland was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Several Lancers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emmanuel Doku, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Samir Wellington, who scored 20 points along with seven assists.
Doane Academy's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-0. As for Holy Cross, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Doane Academy will head out on the road to face off against Pemberton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Holy Cross will be home for the holidays to greet Northern Burlington at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
