Make it eight blowout wins for the Gainesville Cardinals this season. They took their game on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 60-26 victory over Patriot. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Patriot is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madison McKenzie was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Ellingson, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Patriot still got an impressive performance from Ella Negron, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Gainesville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Patriot, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Gainesville will be playing in front of their home fans against Battlefield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Battlefield is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. As for Patriot, they will head out on the road to take on Osbourn at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
