The Sunnyside Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sunnyside will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak alive.
Sunnyside stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Marana, posting a 72-41 victory at home. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Marana is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Janae Pritchett and Ylena Gross were among the main playmakers for Sunnyside as the former scored 18 points along with two steals and the latter scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gross has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Esabella Barajas, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Tucson High Magnet School pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 61-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Catalina Foothills. Tucson High Magnet School has not had much luck with Catalina Foothills recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Sunnyside's win bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Tucson High Magnet School, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10.
Sunnyside beat Tucson High Magnet School 56-43 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Tucson High Magnet School's Gabriella Sanchez, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Sunnyside to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
