On the hitting side, Welsh saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kynnedy Nunn, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Nevaeh Miller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake Arthur). Everything went their way against Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy on Tuesday as Lake Arthur made off with a 19-3 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded Lake Arthur with their most commanding win of the season.
Gabby Sellers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kynli Newsom was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kenli Garcia, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Lake Arthur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .885. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lake Arthur's record now sits at 6-7. As for Welsh, they dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Welsh hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Lake Arthur struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Welsh came up short against Lake Arthur in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 19-14. Can Welsh avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
