The Benson Bobcats won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were outmatched by St. David at home and fell 65-33. While losing is never fun, Benson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Tigers are ranked 38th).
Benson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Rone, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Rone is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Adalie Lewis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
St. David had a senior duo take command as Anissa Jacquez dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds and Mayla Trejo scored 25 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Trejo has scored at least a third of St. David's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracey Crockett, who scored four points along with four steals.
