The Eufaula Ironheads will challenge the Haskell Haymakers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Eufaula is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 9-1 margin over Fort Gibson on Tuesday. The Ironheads not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.
Dawson Hughes and Hayden Robinson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hughes tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Robinson pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. At bat, Hughes scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 3-for-3, while Robinson scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave Hughes a new career-high.
In other batting news, Luke Hodgins was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JP Hicks, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Eufaula was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Gibson only posted a batting average of .174.
Meanwhile, everything went Haskell's way against Liberty on Tuesday as Haskell made off with an 18-10 victory. Considering the Haymakers have won three matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brody Grider looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaxon Drain, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jacob Yocham, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
The win made it two in a row for Eufaula and bumps their season record up to 2-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 3.67 in the others. As for Haskell, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Everything went Eufaula's way against Haskell in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, as Eufaula made off with an 11-5 win. Will Eufaula repeat their success, or does Haskell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
