Taylor Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Stewart, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Marlee Mason, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Glenns Ferry hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wilder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Garden Valley.
M. Lopez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. A. Manzanares also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Glenns Ferry's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wilder, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Glenns Ferry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .560. However, it's not like Wilder struggles in that department as they've averaged .541. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Glenns Ferry's way against Wilder in their previous matchup back in April, as Glenns Ferry made off with a 15-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pilots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
