The South Pontotoc Cougars will take on the East Webster Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Pontotoc is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
On Monday, South Pontotoc made easy work of Vardaman and carried off an 18-1 victory. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Blakelee Dollins was incredible, firing off two home runs and eight RBI while going 3-for-3. Hayleigh Coplin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Dollins wasn't the only one working in the home run department: South Pontotoc lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, East Webster earned a 7-2 win over Mooreville on Friday.
Paytan Sanders made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karra Mae Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Larkin Conner was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
East Webster's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for South Pontotoc, their record is now 11-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Pontotoc hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like East Webster struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Pontotoc couldn't quite finish off East Webster in their previous matchup back in February and fell 5-3. Can South Pontotoc avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
