Patrick Henry extended the longest winning streak in City this week by beating Monte Vista, 9-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Serra moved up to 410 from 493 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Conquistadors climbed the ranks as a result of a 38-12 win over University City.
Serra's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. WILLIE MARTINEZ threw for 68 and one touchdown and ADRIAN URUETA had 68 yards receiving. On the ground MARTINEZ chipped in 89 yards. CALVIN CROCKETT helped Serra's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
James McCormick provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Patrick Henry defeated the Monarchs. He completed 11 passes for 106 yards and also ran for 56 yards. McCormick's favorite target this week was Jabril Clewis, who caught five passes for 40 yards.
Mike Martinez's team's McCormick and Clewis have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. McCormick has thrown for 555 yards this season, while Clewis, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 17 catches for 350 yards. Brian Basteyns's team's MARTINEZ leads the league in rushing yards with 344.
A big matchup in City this week will be when the Conquistadors take on the Patriots. As it stands, Serra is in third, while Patrick Henry is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Conquistadors and the Patriots face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Serra comes in having scored 140 this season, while Patrick Henry has scored 98. The Conquistadors scored 38 points last week as they topped the Centurions.
The Patriots and Monte Vista played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Patriots eventually emerging with a 9-6 victory. McCormick in the win.
