The Sparta Spartans had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Viroqua by a score of 76-68 on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Gavin Rhead was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grant Geier, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Sparta's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-13. As for Viroqua, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sparta will take on the Beavers at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Viroqua, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Blackhawks in Wisconsin (the Red Hawks are ranked 98th, while the Blackhawks are ranked 293rd).
