HCYA will square off against the Fort Bend Christian Academy Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with HCYA sitting on three straight victories and Fort Bend Christian Academy on eight.
HCYA proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Agnes Academy, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win HCYA has posted since February 19th.
Eloni Preston was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. McKinna Martin was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: HCYA kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Bend Christian Academy). They put the hurt on Bay Area Christian with a sharp 19-0 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Reese Heflin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ariel Yee was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Romo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
HCYA's record now sits at 20-5. As for Fort Bend Christian Academy, their record is now 14-5.
HCYA's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. HCYA has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fort Bend Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will HCYA continue to outrun the ball?
