Basketball Recap: York Comes Up Short

York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 19th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the A.C. Flora Falcons, falling 66-22. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Falcons are ranked 54th).

Despite the loss, York saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jailee McDowell posted 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for McDowell.

It was another big night for Teonna Draughn, who earned 18 points along with five boards and three steals for A.C. Flora. Draughn's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Naja Gray, who had nine points along with five assists and three steals.

York's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for A.C. Flora, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-10.

York wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 69-12 loss against South Pointe on the 9th. As for A.C. Flora, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-40 win against Lancaster on the 8th.
