Baseball Recap: Steinbrenner Comes Up Short

If Steinbrenner was riding high fresh off their 14-1 takedown of East Bay last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Steinbrenner Warriors took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Plant Panthers on Tuesday. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Steinbrenner got a good showing from Brooks Belisle, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Belisle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Steinbrenner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Liss, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Gavin Mix also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

Steinbrenner's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3. As for Plant, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Steinbrenner and Plant's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Steinbrenner and Spoto (who has only given up 3.5 runs per game) will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Steinbrenner: 2.8, Plant: 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Plant will face off against East Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, a team that's only allowed one run per game.
