The Banneker Bulldogs will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Roosevelt Roughriders at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Monday, Banneker faced the Trainers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Banneker snuck past the Trainers with a 62-56 win. 62 seems to be a good number for Banneker as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Banneker got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Doran Clausell out in front who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Clausell has scored at least a third of Banneker's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Shelton, who scored 14 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, Roosevelt gave their fans yet another huge victory on Monday. They really took it to Anacostia for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-25 win at home. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Roosevelt had established a 29 point advantage.
Banneker pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Roosevelt, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
Banneker didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the Roughriders when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 79-73 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Banneker since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
