Even though the Floyd Central Jaguars have not done well against the Betsy Layne Bobcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Floyd Central snuck past Betsy Layne with a 68-64 victory. Given Floyd Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Betsy Layne is ranked 107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Floyd Central was led to victory by Braden Moore and Ronnie Samons. Moore scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Samons scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Samons set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Dylan Boyd was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, Betsy Layne had strong showings from Andrew Kidd, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds, and Carter Parsons, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Kidd's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Martin, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Floyd Central's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Betsy Layne, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Floyd Central won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lyon County at 7:30 p.m. on December 16th. Lyon County is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Betsy Layne, they will square off against Leslie County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
