The Pike County Pirates fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Strong Rock Christian Patriots on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. Pike County has struggled against Strong Rock Christian recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Pike County got some senior leadership from Tyson Trawick who scored 14 points and Jaylen Fletcher who scored seven points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nazarious McDowell, who scored five points.
Zack Phillips was his usual excellent self, scoring 35 points along with seven rebounds and three steals for Strong Rock Christian. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Phillips has scored at least 25% of Strong Rock Christian's points. Brooks Bibby was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Pike County now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Strong Rock Christian, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pike County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Salem at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Strong Rock Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mount de Sales Academy at 5:00 p.m. on December 16th. Mount de Sales Academy has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-2 during that stretch of close contests.
