Softball Game Preview: Declo Hornets vs. Soda Springs Cardinals

Declo has gone a perfect 6-0 against Soda Springs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hornets will take on the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Declo has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Declo came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Malad, falling 11-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Hornets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Soda Springs beat Ririe 11-7 on Thursday.

Abby Goodin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Aspen Davis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Emily Thornock, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Soda Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Soda Springs back to even at 8-8. As for Declo, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-10.

Everything went Declo's way against Soda Springs when the teams last played on April 10th, as Declo made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
