Basketball Recap: Vance County's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

It was fun while it lasted, but Vance County's undefeated season came to an end after eight games on Monday. They fell to the Bunn Wildcats 36-30. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vipers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Wildcats are ranked 301st).

Several Vipers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Da'Shunti Hester, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Queenie Whittler, who earned eight points.

Bunn's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Richardson, who put up 17 points. The game was Richardson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ny'Lah Mitchell, who had six points and eight rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Vance County fell to 8-1. As for Bunn, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Vance County will challenge Carrboro at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Vance County's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Carrboro's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bunn, they will welcome Southern Nash at 5:45 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Bunn will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
