Big North - Independence recap Sept. 26, 2012
Passaic Valley moved up to 168 from 248 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Big North - Independence. A 21-0 win over Indian Hills helped the Hornets improve their standing.
Passaic Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, Bill Johnson's team triumphed over the Braves 21-0.
Anthony Lovecchio put up the best numbers through the air as Ramapo defeated Eastside. He finished with nine completions for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Lovecchio's favorite target this week was John Goldschrafe, who caught one pass for 71 yards.
Chris Garcia was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 95 yards on 17 carries as Pascack Valley beat Bergenfield. Teammate Jaleel Felton added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
Soravilla was the best wideout in Big North - Independence this week as the Indians bested the Bears. Soravilla tallied four receptions for 84 yards. Kevin Illian helped Pascack Valley's passing attack out by catching three balls for 19 yards.
Tyler Horner made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford lost to Northern Valley. The 6-foot-4 senior grabbed one sack.
5-foot-10 quarterback Lovecchio of the Raiders is the league leader in passing yards this season with 582. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Pascack Valley's Garcia has rushed for 212 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Will Rodriguez. The Bergenfield star has 24 catches for 206 yards.
Ramapo took down the Ghosts 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lovecchio in the win.
